In August 2003 we launched a quarterly newsletter. This publication is intended to keep our valued customers, informed of the latest developments at the Davy Roll Company.
The topics will include company news, development and advancements in roll materials, plant modernisation and investment projects

Grant Obtained
In June 2003 The Davy Roll Company has obtained an RDA grant from One North East to assist with further capital investment over the next three years. This grant for GBP 1 million was gained with the assistance of UNW group.
The backing of our parent company enables us to give our ongoing commitment to investing in both equipment and people to ensure our long-term future.
New Heat Treatment Furnaces Ordered
Orders were placed in July 2003 for two new heat treatment furnaces that will add significantly to our heat treatment capability.
The furnaces will be commissioned in October 2003. These furnaces are the first stage in a two-year heat treatment capacity improvement programme.
Refurbishment of Lathe
A large turning lathe is currently being refurbished and updated. This has been carried out to meet the demand for large castings for both strip mill back-up rolls and rolls for long product mill applications. This lathe will return to operation in October 2003.
Major Training programme commences
In addition to the investment in capital equipment, Davy Roll is also investing in its workforce.

With the aid of the North East Productivity Alliance and ASSA Training and Learning, the company is educating its entire workforce in lean manufacturing techniques.
The Davy Roll Company is one of only 3 companies in the United Kingdom to pilot this workforce development programme.

Davy Roll Achieves ISO 9001:2000.
As a result of our external Quality audit carried out Friday 18th October 2002, The Davy Roll Company has been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certificate.
As far as we are aware this is another first for DRC as we believe we are the first Roll Company in Europe to achieve this qualification.
This has been acheived after a great deal of hard work by everyone at The Davy Roll Company Ltd, and again reinforces our commitment to product Quality and customer Satisfaction.
